Background

Alison Head read English Literature and Fine Art at Exeter University. She worked at the Castle Museum as a volunteer and then trained as a conservator of easel paintings in Newcastle upon-Tyne, gaining a distinction in 1987.

She has worked in a variety of museums, beginning her career at The North West Area Museum Service originally based in Blackburn. This organisation worked for many museums in the north west. Following her work there she worked at The Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead and The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry.

Alison now works as a freelance conservator to the south west, in Cornwall. She is currently advising Falmouth Art Gallery.

Half of the image is duller and has small spots on, the other half is clean, and vivid.
Alison has extensive experience in many kinds of painting restoration. This section displays some of her more recent work in Falmouth, Cornwall.

On the left is an example of a light surface cleaning. Spots of surface dirt are removed along with a thin layer of dirt that many paintings accumulate over time.
